Your first session
Bass One is an instrument. In a DAW it receives notes from a MIDI or instrument track; audio is produced by its synthesis engine. The Standalone application can also be used outside a DAW.
- Install the Mac package supplied with your download and restart your host if it was open.
- Create an instrument track and load Mucky Bass One as AU or VST3, depending on your host.
- If the licensed build requests a licence, import the supplied .mb1license file before expecting audio.
- Choose one of the built-in factory presets and play a few notes at a low monitoring level.
- Use PERFORM for macros and X/Y, then MAIN for detailed sound editing.
MAIN, PERFORM and MOD
MAIN contains sound sources and detailed editors. PERFORM presents eight editable macros and an X/Y pad. MOD provides an overview of modulation routing and the Kick Pocket timing view. These are views of the same instrument state.
Monitoring and level
Begin with a moderate output level and leave headroom in your DAW. Bass One includes output and dynamics tools, but the bass still needs to be balanced against the kick and the rest of the arrangement.
